How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for nearly 4 years. Blogging full time for about 3 and a half years. My husband quit his job about 4 months ago to join me full time too.
Why did you decide to start your blog?
I first started it as a bit of a diary and a way to document my recipes. I loved the process (still do!) and soon realised it could be profitable as well as fun. I’d been working in IT for around 14 years and as I moved up the career ladder, I was finding I had less and less time to spend with the kids. I wanted something more flexible and fulfilling at the same time. I left my job and gave myself one year to start making a regular income from the blog. It worked and I haven’t looked back since!
What do you hope to achieve for your content in 2018?
My husband quit his job a few months ago, and we’re currently working hard to ensure our blogs can sustain us. We’re loving working together (we worked in the same IT department when I was in the corporate world) and we’re really hoping the blogs can continue to grow. It’d be amazing if we could start to earn an income from our new blog (livingtheblog.com) in 2018 too!
What is your favourite social media channel & why?
I love Pinterest for inspiration on anything and everything. I’m on Pinterest all the time – mostly pinning gorgeous food pics, but also to get inspiration on kid’s activities, holidays and interior design. Instagram comes a very close second though.
What is your favourite tool or app that helps in your content creation?
It has to be Adobe Lightroom. Over the years (with a bit of help from my husband, Chris), I learnt how to use my digital camera. I love the editing process and getting my photos to pop using Lightroom. I firmly believe that great photos are absolutely essential to growing a food blog, so I think Lightroom is also one of the most important tools for content creation too.
Who is your blogging/vlogging/content inspiration?
Lindsay from Pinch of Yum and Nagi from Recipe Tin Eats are a huge inspiration for me. They both take amazing photos, create mouth-watering recipes, and have done amazingly well in the world of food blogging. They understand what their audience wants, care about meeting those needs, and have built hugely successful businesses based on this.
What is the one piece of advice you’d give other bloggers & aspiring bloggers?
Fun/Random fact about you:
I tried scuba diving once, and thought I was going to die when they put a weight belt on me that was too heavy. I couldn’t get back to the surface and panicked (even though I had an oxygen tank on, and could breathe). Never again! I’ll stick to good old doggy paddle on top of the water thanks!
