FEATURED BLOGGER OF THE WEEK – Frankie's Weekend
Name: Katie Franklin
Blog URL: www.frankiesweekend.com
Twitter followers: 1.9k
Instagram followers: 1.3k
Other social stat: Just started up my Facebook page
How long have you been blogging?
I started waaay back in 2012 but very ‘on and off’. I’d say I’ve properly been in the swing of things for about two years, but I do have some weeks where I just can’t seem to fit it in! Hoping that this year I can keep it consistent.
Why did you decide to start your blog?
I initially started FrankiesWeekend as a lifestyle blog to celebrate doing more with our spare time. About two years ago it evolved as I developed a huge interest in health and fitness; balanced eating and my well-being.
After nurturing a passion for home cooking, approaching food as fuel, lifting weights, HIIT, running and understanding more about the importance of my well-being, my weekends (and weekdays!) look slightly different.
I try really hard to use the 80 / 20 approach with food and exercise and wanted to share my struggles and successes in doing this with like-minded people.
I'm not a health or fitness expert. I'm not in the industry professionally, but I want people to think of my blog as 'your friend' who's trying their best to live a healthy lifestyle. I want this place to be somewhere people feel they can come not just for inspiration but to laugh at our healthy failings and somewhere you'll find 'normal' restaurant reviews, too.
I want my blog to show people what fitness and food I'm loving at the moment and what's working for me, and hope to inspire you to cook healthily, indulge too, and find some sort of exercise that you'd class as fun!
What do you hope to achieve for your blog in 2017?
I’m really eager to write more opinion based pieces and thought lead ‘stuff’. When I’ve written posts like that in the past I’ve been really proud of them, so I hope to be able to create some really meaty blog content. Basically, I want to give it the time it deserves! Winning an award would be pretty cool, too 😉
What is your favourite social media channel & why?
INSTYYYY. I love Instagram. It’s so visual, yet you can caption an essay until your heart’s content so you get a really nice blend of both. Flatlays, latte art and marble tabletops for the win! (I know, I’m so basic…)
Who is your blogging inspiration?
Oooh gosh this is a really hard one!! So many people, for so many reasons. I absolutely adore Carly Rowena as she’s so genuine and transparent with everything, she’s very relatable. Hazel Wallace (The Food Medic) has my absolute respect as she’s just qualified as a junior doctor and killing it in the bloggersphere too. Zanna Van Dijk for keeping her content so funny all the time.
What is the one piece of advice you’d give other bloggers & aspiring bloggers?
“Just do you”. I know this phrase is having a bit of a ‘moment’ but I’m so glad because it should be celebrated. Carving your niche and writing content for a like-minded audience is so rewarding, so don’t try and force an article or post if you’re really not feeling it in your heart. It will show in your delivery and you’ll lose your integrity… which is so important given how busy the blogging scene is!
Fun/Random fact about you:
I auditioned to be on Skins(!) and very nearly got through the final round, but they wanted to shave my hair off so it was a no from me.
