FEATURED BLOGGER OF THE WEEK – Soph-Obsessed
Name: Sophie Gillum-Webb
Blog URL: sophobsessed.com
Twitter followers: 4310
Instagram followers: 3576
Youtube followers: 1254
How long have you been blogging?
Officially, 18 months although a year of that was very sporadic whilst I was finding my feet and inspiration. I’d say the last 6 months have been serious.
Why did you decide to start your blog?
In 2010 my now husband and I relocated to Manchester from down south. I soon realised I was pregnant and also very lonely. I didn’t know anyone and my husband worked away a lot. All of our family and friends were hours away and I really struggled. I mulled on though as we women do! After I had Henry I started going to Mummy groups but I felt like no-one could relate to me which made me feel even more lonely. Then I stumbled upon the world of blogs, just by chance. I found that there were so many people just like me that felt the exact same way I felt and that really helped me. So when my son started preschool I had all this extra time on my hands and I remembered how low I had felt and how those blogs helped me. So then, just like that, Soph-obsessed was born.
What do you hope to achieve for your blog in 2017?
I’ve set myself the target that 2017 is my year. I’ve always been a bit sporadic with both my blog and YouTube but it’s consistency that is key to growing an audience. I want to work on turning those page views into subscribers and now my son is in full time education there is no reason why I can’t!
What is your favourite social media channel & why?
Hands down has to be good old Instagram. I’m a real visual person and a big believer that a picture can paint a thousand words. If I’m early on the school run or waiting for the kettle to boil I always flick over for a quick peek at Instagram!
Who is your blogging inspiration?
I have followed Sarah from Life in a Breakdown for a long time. She blogs about topics I feel I can really relate to and we both suffer from one of the same chronic illnesses.
What is the one piece of advice you’d give other bloggers & aspiring bloggers?
Look at blogging as an extension of your personality. There are so many bloggers all blogging about the exact same thing so the only thing that sets each one apart is the individuality behind who writes it. If you write about something you love and let your personality shine through, people will want to read it.
Fun/Random fact about you:
I might actually love my French Bulldog a tiny bit more than my husband! Shhh don’t tell him!!
