So last Sunday 19th March, saw our 2nd WeBlogMCR workshop of 2017 and what a workshop it was!
The focus of the workshop was on ways of earning money and making blogging a career and we had 3 wonderful sessions, including a photography session where we were able to get creative and improve those necessary blogging visual skills...
WeBlogMCR Workshop 2
Session 1 - Fiona, I-COM
Fiona, who is Head of PR at Manchester-based Digital Marketing Agency, I-COM, talked us through what PR agencies and brands really thing of us bloggers. She gave us insight into life on the "other side" and how we can make ourselves more appealing to brands.
The session gave us bloggers and social influencers such a great sneak-peak into the minds of a PR agency, as well as the opportunity to to ask all those questions that we really want to know!
Fiona is also a blogger herself, so could give a genuine "both sides of the coin" overview. Thanks Fiona!
Session 2 - Georgie Glass, Photographer
Georgie, is resident food photographer at Manchester Confidential (how awesome is that job?!) and has recently launched her own blog which is full of enviable visuals.
After an information filled first session, this session started with an opportunity to get creative (and a bit messy), but styling our own victoria sponge cake. "But why?!" I hear you cry! Because Georgie had then set up 5 stations across the venue, in various lighting and styling backgrounds. The idea was that we'd then work our way around the stations, tackling the challenges, with guidance and key tips from Georgie.
You know when you take a photo and it's sh*t and you get really annoyed cos you can't use it, so you delete it and just give-up, angered that you can't produce the quality photo you want? Well Georgie gave us the hands-on insight to mean this no longer needs to happen!
Session 3 - HollyGoesLightly & SpamellaB, Bloggers
Then our final session was hosted by bloggers Holly and Spam, who talked us through the various channels of potential income from blogging and being a social influencer.
They encouraged us to think outside the box, look at the skills we utilise being a blogger and valuable tools like setting your rate-card and creating an impressive media pack.
They key is to diversify, create natural content and DON'T SELL OUT!
Phew!
So after nearly 8 hours of learning, we were all knackered and full of smiles, as we exchanged social deets and went home, passing-out on the sofa in front of the telly. What a day!
Over to you!
