So next time you're setting up a lifestyle or interiors shot for a photograph, whether it's on your blog, Instagram or elsewhere, keep these tips in mind...
A little perfecting goes a long way
Before you go ahead and take the picture, look at the surroundings.
Could you plump the cushions?
Smooth out any creases on furniture or clothing?
Move any clutter out of the shot?
These small things make a big difference in giving your finished shot that professional touch.
Then, add some character with props and small items
Especially when photographing your home or yourself in your space, you want to retain the character of the room. Props and small details are great for this. Think of your favourite mug, an open magazine, a throw that doesn't look too perfect, a plant or even an item from your handbag on the coffee table.
You don't want the photograph to look like you're sat in a showroom, so take some time to add character.
To summarise, the biggest thing I learnt from Maxine is it's all in the details! The key to beautiful photographs is having attention to detail. The smallest tweak can make a huge difference in how eye-catching and professional the end result comes out.
