Today I'm sharing 3 small changes you can make, that will transform your content and online presence.
At WeBlog HQ, we’re a huge fan of small, steady changes. There’s no race to the finish line with social media, but if there was - slow and steady would definitely win the race.
Whether you want to increase traffic, grow your following, stay consistent or just get organised - these are small tweaks you can make to your content today. Some of them take 10 minutes or less!
Check your analytics
You will be amazed at how much valuable information you can learn by checking your analytics. I’ve totally been there - if numbers aren’t your thing or you’re just starting out, the whole thing can be very intimidating. However, getting into the habit of checking your analytics for just 5-10 minutes every week is taking advantage of a powerful tool that gives you a massive insight into your audience.
It can answer questions like who they are, where they are, when they’re online, what they’re searching for. All hugely valuable things to know when it comes to creating content they’ll love, making the most of the algorithm and even having leverage with brands who might want to work with you.
e.g. knowing when your audience is online, you can schedule content to go up around those times to grab their attention.
Looking at posts or pieces of content that get the most traffic or engagement can give you insight into what your audience wants more of in future.
So don’t be scared of your analytics, they’re an amazing FREE tool you should take advantage of.
Time batching
In 2019, we’re busier than ever. We’ve got side hustles, full-time jobs, family to look after, creative projects, a social life to maintain, travel plans, house renovations. It’s no wonder we struggle to fit a blog post or a vlog into the mix! Some weeks I don’t even have time to open the Instagram app, never mind post!
Time batching has changed the game for me. Maximising your time when you are spending it on your content will mean you get more work down in less time, and can get ahead of yourself so you're covered for those super busy weeks.
Whether it’s spending an hour on the weekend with your blogger mates and getting all your Instagram pictures snapped, or not making plans on a Wednesday evening so you can head home to write the month’s blog posts. Batching one task and bulk planning is efficient and is the best answer to staying consistent as a busy person juggling different responsibilities. Which leads me on to my next point...
Fail to plan, plan to fail!
I hate this saying but it’s painfully true some weeks. How many times have we said, “I’m getting one blog post up a week this month!” Then completely forgetting we said it, heading for the bag of Mini Eggs then remembering the 5 million other things we’ve gotta do that week.
It can’t just be me, right?!
Create a place dedicated to your content. Whether it’s a folder on Instagram to save inspirational images for your next shoot, a Trello board, Google Calendar. Whatever works for you, find it and stick with it.
That way, when it comes to those time chunks mentioned previously, you have a plan in place ready to rock and you can get going with those 4 blog posts.
We recommend having this on-the-go, preferably in digital format just so it’s quick and easy to update and can be accessed anywhere. The number of times I’ve thought of an idea on the tram, over lunch with a friend or even on the loo (TMI!) and I’ve had to grab my phone there and then to document it.
I love Evernote and Google Calendar for my own content, but Holly and I also love Asana for larger projects. There are tons of options, but find your favourite and get planning.
So there you have it - 3 changes you can make this week, to transform your content, get organised and grow your online presence! We'd love to hear if you try out any of these tips. Let us know by tagging us on Instagram @weblognorth - our DMs are always open as well!
