How long have you been blogging?

I started to blog under the name Eat and two Veg in summer 2015. Before that, I had written for a few fanzines/music blogs but nothing too serious. Last year, we got featured by a digital agency in Manchester as one of the top ten food blogs and since then it’s really taken off.

Why did you decide to start your blog?

It all started after I realised that I’d eaten out every day for two weeks – not great for my bank balance. Most people would start to budget or cut down on expenditures – we decided to start a blog.
As a lifelong vegetarian (I’ve been veggie since before I knew what it truly meant), we used to eat out a lot but started to struggle to find inspiration for new places to eat and which dishes were best. There’s only so many times you can be inspired by a halloumi burger or a cheese tart and wanted to find the best dishes out there.
As a city, Manchester is excellent for Vegan and Vegetarians with new places opening every week – there is so much choice and variety that you just don’t get in many places in the UK.

What do you hope to achieve for your blog in 2017?

We’ve got a lot planned for 2017! We’ve already updated the website to great effect – really helped with increasing the traffic to the site. We’ve also trailed our few video reviews – a long way to go before we’re happy with the format. We plan to branch out from Manchester, include the surrounding area and covering days out etc. I’m also making a conscious effort this year to improve my photography skills.

What is your favourite social media channel & why?

My favourite social channel this year is Instagram – we’ve really put a lot more focus on it since the end of last year. The immediacy of it and the reach it allows us to get to a much larger audience. If you are new to blogging I’d suggest you focus on Instagram over Twitter, which can be quite a slog when you are first starting out.

Who is your blogging inspiration?

Elsa Eats is a great inspiration, we have learnt a lot from her writing style. Especially after struggling to find a way to write a review at a specific event and she managed to get a great overview up in less than a week.

What is the one piece of advice you’d give other bloggers & aspiring bloggers?

Be yourself and don’t try too hard when you write.
Think about grammar and the story you want to tell.
Get someone else to read it out to you.
Set yourself targets, like we try to publish 3 blogs a month. If you can get them out at a consistent time every month that helps, for example, once every Tuesday.

Turns out Eat And Two Veg used to be a restaurant in London. We still get the occasional email asking for a booking...
