In a world full of people, being authentic is the best way to stand out and make your actions count.
How long have you been blogging/vlogging/
I have been blogging for around 5 years technically but it has really been in the past 2 1/2 years where I have started to make bigger steps towards creating something worthwhile and fulfilling through my blog.
Why did you decide to start your blog/vlog?
It initially began as a personal account of my journey through recovery. It was such a therapeutic process as it gave me a chance to discover my love for creativity and writing once again, as well as helping me to process, understand, and raise awareness about the mental health issues I was experiencing.
Around 3 years ago, people began to reach out to me and offer their gratitude for the content I create, saying that it was encouraging them to believe in themselves and see that they are really not alone. It was at this point that I realised that I could really make a difference through my own voice in order to help and guide others through whatever life may hold for them.
Do you see this becoming a career or part of your career?
Though this is not (yet) a paid role, I never really imagined becoming such an avid and active member of the online community and blogging in my spare time. Being creative and wanting to help others is totally ingrained in my personality so really it shouldn’t be surprising that this has become such a big part of my life. However, I still have to pinch myself when I realise that all the wonderful achievements and memories made over the years are actually my own!
What do you hope to achieve for your content in 2018 and what’s your big-picture goal?
As this year draws to a close, I would like to round it off by having a strong plan in motion to turn The Growing Butterfly into a space for everyone to come to in order to find the light inside themselves and use it to shine brighter by being who they are. It would be incredible to start regular meetups to connect people together away from the online world, as well as establish on-going collaborations with companies/brands/business that hold similar views to me.
What is your favourite social media channel & why?
Instagram is by far my favourite social media platform because it gives so much freedom for some creative to capture images that speak to followers and to share thoughts on everything that you would like to share. Aside from blog websites, it is the best way to find out more about fellow bloggers and influencers through the styling and content of their profiles.
What is your favourite tool or app that helps in your content creation?
Hootsuite is fantastic for scheduling Instagram and Tw
Who is your blogging/vlogging/
Gosh! I have a number of inspiring people in the industry who I look to, but I will say that currently, I love Hannah Rose Cluley for her beautiful body images and heartwarming poems that speak to the heart. Also, I adore following Cat Meffan because she is one of the most gorgeous souls I have seen!
What do you like to do on weekends? Where can we find you hanging out?
Any opportunity I have to switch off from work/blogging is spent in the company of those I love the most; my boyfriend and dog Bella. Family and friends mean a lot to me so going out with them to restaurants in town, or taking trips to different places is perfect. Otherwise, you will find me in my pyjamas, dress gown and fluffy socks under a blanket!
If you could go anywhere in the world or experience any one thing, what would it be?
There are far too many places that I dream of travelling to so its hard to name just one! Spending a few months travelling around Australia, New Zealand, then over to Thailand and Bali is a huge aspiration - just finding the time and funds for it!
What're your tips for staying motivated and/or organised in your work?
My greatest motivator is to always remind myself of my intentions through blogging. That way I am aware of what this is all for and that every achievement made is a step closer to fulfilling those intentions.
What is the one piece of advice you’d give other content creators & aspiring bloggers/vloggers?
Do what you love not what others are doing. Whatever your heart calls you to do, follow it, pursue it, make it happen in your own way. In a world full of people, being authentic is the best way to stand out and make your actions count.
Fun/Random fact about you (go on, surprise us!):
Don’t know if this is bizarre or not but I would love to have a pet otter because of how insanely cute they are and the adorable squeaky noises they make!
